About The Founder
The Irene duPont Library at St. Andrew's School was given by and named for the founder's sister, Irene Sophie duPont. She was a generous donor to the school as well as a great benefactor of libraries across the state of Delaware. Mrs. duPont was a quiet woman who disliked publicity about her numerous donations but instead preferred to do her good deeds quietly. In light of this characteristic we hope that she would approve of this small tribute to her generous spirit. Mrs. duPont was the daughter of Francis Gurney duPont of Wilmington and Elise Simmons of Charleston, SC. She was born April 17, 1877 and died November 28, 1961. |

The Irene duPont Library
Originally built in October 1956 and completely renovated in 1997, the Library contains 32,000 volumes and over 120 periodicals. In addition to these inhouse resources the students have access to exceptional online databases which can be accessed anywhere on campus and beyond! Within the library there is a computer lab, periodical room, reference room, and two class size study rooms. These are all incorporated into a three-story structure with a serene and academic environment.
