Circulation Services

All current St. Andrew’s School employees and students have a patron account with the Irene duPont Library and have access to all Library resources. The library is open from 6:30 am until 10pm and all resources on the library web page are available 24/7.

Checking Out Materials

The Irene duPont Library operates on a self-check system. That is, all patrons may check out items without the assistance of a Librarian, with the exception of DVDs which MUST be checked out by a Librarian. Please see a Librarian to learn how to check out Library items.

Loan Periods and Renewals

BOOKS:

All patrons may check out books for three (3) weeks; these items may be renewed for an additional two (2) weeks provided another patron has not requested the item. All books in the Reference collection must be used in the Library.

DVDs and VIDEOS:

Students may check out DVDs and videos for three (3) days; employees may check these items out for three (3) weeks; these items may not be renewed.

PERIODICALS:

Periodicals may not leave the Irene duPont Library. However; many of these periodicals are also available online. Please check here for availability.

Return Policy

Each patron is responsible for any and all items checked out in his or her name. All Library items are to be returned in the same condition as when they were checked out to the book drop slot located in the front of the circulation desk.

Overdues

Overdue Notices for DVDs are issued monthly. Overdue Notices for all items are issued near the end of each semester. Patrons will be given two (2) days to return any items noted on these Notices. After the grace period, marks will be issued at the rate of three (3) marks per day, per item. Five (5) days before the end of each semester, patrons will be charged for any item noted on the Overdue Notice which has not been returned.

Holds and Recalls

Should you need an item from the collection which is not currently available, you may place a hold on this item. We will notify you via e-mail when the item is in and hold it for you in the Library Office. Please see a Librarian for details. If you need the book immediately, ask a Librarian to place a recall on the book. In this case, a notice will be sent to the patron who currently has the item, requesting its return as soon as possible. A recall will also be issued for any item which is overdue and requested by another patron.

Academic Reserves

Faculty may place certain items on Reserve for student use in a particular course. These items are held on the shelf behind the circulation desk. All items placed on Reserve are considered closed and may not be removed from the Library. Faculty may also choose to place their syllabus in course guides with the majority of their material made available online and maintained by the Librarians.

Guidelines For Group Work

If you know you are going to be working together, first try to work in one of the five study rooms; if neither is available try the reference room.

If none of the study rooms nor the reference room are available, you may work together at a table within the main floor of the library. However; we should not be able to here you, nor should we need to speak to you.

If we can hear you, we most likely will ask you to leave the library and find a classroom in which to work.
