Celebrating Women's History Month

It's March and we're celebrating Women's History Month! In 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the second week in March to be National Women's History week and in 1987 Congress passed a resolution naming the month of March as Women's History Month!

The Women's History Month Theme for 2021 is "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced." Throughout the month browse through the library's collection of women who refused to be silenced. Susan B. Anthony, Ida B. Wells, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, Frances E.W. Harper, Mary Church Terrell, Lucretia Mott, Carrie Chapman Catt, Sojourner Truth, Emmeline Pankhurst, to name just a few. Check out our databases that include thousands of primary sources dedicated to women and their social movements. JSTOR Daily will post feature articles on women all month long. Be sure to check out the library's virtual display of Women's History Month 2021.

This year's theme is a continuation of last year's that was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. "The National Women's History Allliance is determined that the important roles of multicultural suffragists and voting rights activists continue to be recognized and honored. We refuse to allow their voices to be silenced, even by a pandemic."
