Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is the latest SAS Book Club selection. This most recent addition to the Hunger Games universe, offers a profound exploration of Haymitch Abernathy's past during the 50th Hunger Games aka The Second Quarter Quell. Released in March 2025, the novel has gleaned significant attention, selling over 1.5 million copies in its first week.
Charlotte Traub '26, one of the book club's leaders, had this to say about their selection.
"The book club chose the new prequel in the Hunger Games series, "Sunrise on the Reaping," as our book this spring because we know how popular the original series was. In the St. Andrew's community specifically, the series has a loyal fandom, and when Suzanne Collins announced the book's release last summer, I knew it would make a great book club pick. The new novel allowed readers to return to one of the most compelling dystopian ficitional worlds that has ever been created, and introduced groundbreaking information that reframed the previous books in a completely new light. The discussion was a hit, and members of the book club conversed about the book's astonishing plot twists, devastating character deaths, and shared excitement over the upcoming movie and casting announcements. The Book Club is excited for summertime, and hopeful that SAS students will have free time to relax and enjoy new books."
The library very much looks forward to September and hearing about what books the students read over the summer!
