"A bad book." "Trash." "Offensive." "Too racy." "Morally corrupt." These terms have been used by those formally challenging a book's placement in a library. Each year the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom compiles a list of challenged and banned books, who they are challenged by, what the fate of the book was. Then American libraries celebrate your Freedom to Read during Banned Book Week. We like to challenge you to find out why a book - maybe one of your favorites! - has been put on a list seeking its censorship.
As your library we strive to follow the Library Bill of Rights. It is our creed, stemming straight from the First Ammendment of the U.S. Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
