The SAS Student Book Club has selected The Prince of los Cocuyos as their first read of the 2019-2020 school year. Leaders of the club, Spencer McKenzie '20 and Madeline Birknes '21, are hoping students (and adults as well) will read their choice over Fall long weekend.
The Prince of los Cocuyos was also a recommendation on this year's summer reading list highly recommended by Spanish teacher David Miller and VI former Karen Paredes.
This is all so timely as the author of the book, Richard Blanco, is one of our visiting author's this year. Mr. Blanco is a poet, author, and civil engineer. He is the fifth presidential inaugural poet, speaking at Barack Obama's second inauguration in 2013. Mr. Blanco's other writings include Looking for the Gulf Motel and For All of Us, One Today. Richard Blanco is scheduled to visit campus on Friday, October 25th.
The Book Club will meet after long weekend but before Mr. Blanco's visit to discuss his memoir. Happy reading!
